The Meaning Behind the Name: Black Saddle

When Sara + Evan bought their farm in Callander in 2017, they named it Black Saddle Farm. They came up with this name because of the black saddle on their German Shepherds back, Luna. They have since gotten a second German Shepherd, Riggs.

The name then became the name of Sara's photography business when she rebranded in 2017, Black Saddle Photography. It also became the name for the education side to Sara's photography business, Black Saddle Retreat.

It only made sense to name the venue Black Saddle Barn.

The Black Saddle brand is very approachable, comfortable, and feels like home. Everyone and anyone is welcome.

FAQ

What is the capacity?

200 max

Is there enough parking for our guests?

You bet! There's a huge parking lot with lighting, as well as spaces near the farmhouse. BSB can accommodate up to 105 vehicles.
A recommendation list for transportation/shuttle companies can also be provided.

How big is the property?

We have about 51 acres.

Is this venue LGBTQ+ friendly?

Of course. Anyone and everyone is welcome here!

What's included in the rental?

It depends on what you're renting it for. We are an "all in" type of venue. If you're renting it for a weekend wedding, you get the barn, pavilion, farmhouse, washrooms, and the grounds for the ceremony and photos. There's also 200 white garden chairs, 26 harvest tables, and so much more that is included.

We have smaller packages for corporate events or markets that may not require access to the other buildings the same way a wedding would.

We are always adding on items, so ask for an updated list to see what's new.

Is this venue accessible?

Yes, the bathrooms and barn are all wheelchair accessible. There are a few stairs leading into the farmhouse as well as stairs to get to the bedroom floors in the farmhouse.

Is there smoking allowed?

There is no smoking in ANY of the buildings. There is a designated smoking area and this is the ONLY space where smoking of any kind is permitted. All waste must be put into the appropriate bin provided.

This includes vaping and e-cigarettes, and any other kind of smoking.

Do we require liability insurance?

Yes. You are required to buy coverage for your event. We will give you all the details upon booking. Our insurance company also provided a discount code for all of our couples!

Do you offer photogaphy?

Sara is a photography and would love to document your beautiful story; however, if you have another photographer you love, you are more than welcome to hire them instead. Any other photographer is welcome.

Sara can also recommend some amazing photographers if her style isn't your vibe!

Do you offer planning services?

Yes. With our years of experience in the wedding industry, we offer planning services and day of coordination. However, if we are unavailable, we can also give you recommendations for other businesses who offer this. Either way, we've got you and are here to help!

Can we pay via debit or credit card?

Yes, we can accept payments via debit and all major credit cards. Email transfer is the preferred method of payments. Cash is also accepted.

Is there a rain option?

Yes! The heated pavilion is a great option if it's raining, or inside the barn itself. You're also welcome to rent a tent.

Can we have our pets there?

For the ceremony and photos yes. Unfortunately, not for any over nights though. Although we are animal lovers and wish they could all come, we do not allow any pets in the barn, pavilion, or farmhouse.

Is there a place where we can both get ready before the wedding?

Yes, you can both get ready in different areas of the house or one can have the house and the other can have the pavilion. If you do want to rent a secondary place, we have lots of local places we can recommend.

Is the barn heated?

It is not. However, with it full of people it warms up nicely.
If you're wanting something closer to winter, we recommend the pavilion instead of the barn. The pavilion is heated. There are also some safe heater rentals that we can recommend.

Do you have a Preferred Vendor list?

We have a list of amazing vendors that we can send you upon booking.

This isn't a "preferred" list, it's a list to help you get started. We want couples to be able to hire whoever they want! So, no preferred - this leaves people out: all are welcome. We don't take kickbacks from vendors to be on a list. That isn't a reason to refer to anyone. We truly just want the best fit for couples vision + budget.

There's so many great local businesses that we encourage you to use.

Do we have to rent bathrooms?

Nope! We have a bathroom building with a wheelchair accessible one as well. It's a permanent bathroom building. No stinky portapotties here!
The bathrooms all have sinks for handwashing.

Are candles permitted?

No flame candles are allowed. We ask that only flameless candles are used.

What do we have to rent?

Chairs: With the rental you have white garden chairs included. If those aren't your style, or you'd like to use those for the ceremony and rent another style for the reception, you have that option.

Tables: we have 26 harvest tables included in your rental. You are welcome to rent different ones from somewhere if these aren't your style. We also have 4 white picnic tables that are included to use (we suggest near/in the pavilion). As well as 3 plastic tables (great for use around the bar!).

Decor: We have 8 wine barrels that you're welcome to use. We like to use them as bar top style tables for guests to stand around. If there's any specific decor that you'd like to rent, there's local companies that offer some beautiful items.

Do we have to pay a deposit?

To secure your date(s), we do require a 50% non refundable retainer.

Can we use glass in the barn?

Yes! Because we don't have livestock on site, using glass is not an issue. However, we do recommend switching to plastic after the dinner. As the night goes on, and guests get a bit tipsy, glass is bound to break. It's totally up to you though!

Are there additional accommodations nearby?

Yes. Callander has many cottages nearby for rent, we will provide a list. There's also a hotel in Callander as well as many in North Bay.
